'Have Nothing To Do With Jeffrey Epstein': Trump Alleges Conspiracy To Damage Him Politically
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday told reporters he had “nothing to do with" the late financier Jeffrey Epstein and claimed that newly released Justice Department files showed a conspiracy aimed at damaging him politically and costing him elections.
Referring to Grammy Awards broadcast and its host, Trevor Noah, Trump said, “He said that I spent time on Jeffrey Epstein's island. I didn't. I have nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein."
He went further, asserting that Epstein and author Michael Wolff had “conspired against Donald Trump to lose the election," adding, “So right there, you know that I had nothing to do with this guy."
Trump accused Democrats of driving the renewed focus on Epstein, arguing it was now “hitting back on them" because of other prominent names appearing in the files.
“The Democrats are pushing it, and the problem is that it's turning out to be the Democrats that were with and conspired with Epstein," he said, before concluding that the effort had failed.
“But this is the Oval Office, so I guess that didn't work out too well," Trump said.
Trump also dismissed the renewed attention as a political distraction, saying, “The amount of time that's being wasted," and claimed the focus would soon fade as scrutiny shifted elsewhere.
His remarks echoed and expanded on a series of posts he made earlier on Truth Social.
In one, Trump wrote, “Not only wasn't I friendly with Jeffrey Epstein but, based upon information that has just been released by the Department of Justice, Epstein and a SLEAZEBAG lying ‘author' named Michael Wolff, conspired in order to damage me and/or my Presidency."
He added that he had “never went to the infested Epstein island" and claimed political rivals and donors had done so.
In another post hours earlier, Trump lashed out at Trevor Noah, accusing him of falsely saying Trump and former president Bill Clinton had spent time on Epstein's island.
“WRONG!!!" Trump wrote, saying he had “never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close," and threatening to sue both Noah and the broadcaster, CBS.
Noah made the quip during his monologue while referencing a song-of-the-year award, joking that Trump wanted a new island “to hang out with Bill Clinton."
Trump responded on social media by calling the host a “total loser" and warning that lawyers could soon be involved.
The Justice Department's document release, more than three million pages, details Epstein's social and professional links with numerous figures in politics, finance and business.
The department cautioned that some material could contain false or unproven allegations and said it had removed documents that inadvertently identified victims.
Among those discussed in the files were Clinton, technology billionaire Bill Gates, Britain's former Prince Andrew (formally Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor), Tesla chief Elon Musk, former Treasury secretary Larry Summers and others.
Many of those figures have denied wrongdoing, and several have said they regret past associations with Epstein.
The Justice Department has said it will continue to manage further releases carefully, even as the Epstein case again fuels political clashes and public debate in Washington.
