‘We will self-introspect’: Prashant Kishor declares Maun Vrat following Jan Suraaj’s electoral wipeout in Bihar polls
Prashant Kishor will observe a day-long vow of silence on November 20. This gesture follows his Jan Suraaj Party's failure to win any seats in the recent Bihar Assembly elections. Kishor stated this is a redemption attempt for those whose dreams were shattered.
Prashant Kishor, chief of the newly formed Jan Suraaj Party, said he will 'introspect' and observe a day-long maun vrat (vow of silence) on November 20 at Gandhi Vidarbha Ashram, calling it a gesture of “redemption” after his party failed to secure even a single seat in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections.
“We will self-introspect. It now Nitish Ji and BJP's responsibility to work on the issues of Bihar… I am responsible for those whose dreams shattered as they connected with Jan Suraaj and thought Bihar can have a new system. As a redemption attempt, I will keep ‘Maun Vrat' for one day on 20th at Gandhi Vidarbha Ashram," said the party leader in a first reaction to the deadly blow.
Acknowledging the setback, Kishor further said the verdict demanded honesty and reflection.
“We made an honest effort, but it was completely unsuccessful. There's no harm in admitting this. Forget about systemic change; we couldn't even bring about a change in power. But we certainly played some role in changing Bihar's politics,” he said while addressing a press conference on the matter.
“There must have been some mistake in our efforts, in our thinking, in the way we explained things. If the public did not show faith in us, then the responsibility for that is completely mine. I take that responsibility 100% on myself, that I could not win the faith of the people of Bihar," he added.
His comments came as the party lost its deposit in 236 of the 238 seats it contested and failed to secure a single victory, its vote share proved consequential in several constituencies. In 35 seats, the debutante party's vote tally exceeded the winning margin—raising questions about whether its presence influenced outcomes, even if unintentionally.
Of these 35 seats, the NDA secured 19—10 for the JD(U), five for the BJP, three for LJP-RV and one for RLM—while the Mahagathbandhan (MGB) won 14, including nine for the RJD, two for Congress and one each for CPM, CPIML-L and IIP. AIMIM and BSP picked up one seat each in this group.
The party also managed a second-place finish in Marhaura and secured third place in 115 constituencies.
