Prashant Kishor holds day-long silent fast after Bihar Poll setback

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor observed a silent fast on Thursday. He spent the day at Bhitiharwa Ashram in West Champaran. This is the same place where Mahatma Gandhi established a centre nearly a century ago. Kishor had also begun his 3,500-km 'padyatra' from this location three years prior.
Still recovering from his party's poor performance in the recent Bihar assembly elections, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor observed a day-long silent fast on Thursday.
Kishor spent the day at Bhitiharwa Ashram in West Champaran, the centre set up by Mahatma Gandhi nearly a hundred years ago, the party said in a statement.
The Jan Suraaj founder has often spoken about his respect for Gandhi, and he had begun his 3,500-km “padyatra” from the same place three years ago—a march that eventually led to the formation of the Jan Suraaj Party on Gandhi Jayanti last year.
Before starting the fast, the 48-year-old politcian, joined by party leaders including state president Manoj Bharti, offered flowers at Gandhi's statue.
A day earlier, Kishor admitted that one of his key decisions — choosing not to contest the assembly elections himself — may have been a “mistake”.
In a television interview, he said he had never imagined the party's vote share would fall below 4% and stressed that the setback had only strengthened his resolve to continue his political journey
"My decision not to contest polls can be considered a mistake. We have to do a lot to achieve a satisfactory result. I had never expected that our party would get less than 4 per cent votes in the assembly polls," he had said. Kishor added that he would keep working until he achieved electoral success in Bihar, though he could not say how long it would take. He also repeated his allegation that the ruling JD(U) gained an unfair advantage by distributing cash benefits and announcing large financial promises just ahead of the elections — a move he claimed influenced voters across constituencies.
"I will not back down without winning Bihar. I don't know how much time it will take," he said during the interview.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
