Shilpa Shetty Calls For Mindful Internet Use, Urges Parents To Raise Digitally Aware Children
Shilpa Shetty is urging parents to rethink how children engage with the digital world. Marking Safer Internet Day on February 10, the actor shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, speaking not as a public figure but as a mother concerned about the growing influence of the internet on young minds.
Acknowledging that the internet is a powerful space for learning, creativity, and exploration, Shilpa also pointed out that it comes with undeniable risks. While technology opens doors to knowledge and imagination, it can also expose children to content they may not be emotionally ready to process.
Instead of promoting strict bans or fear-driven rules, she emphasised the importance of mindful access. According to her, parenting in today's tech-driven world is about balance ensuring children benefit from digital tools while being protected from potential harm. Simply limiting screen time, she suggested, is not enough; what truly matters is understanding what children are consuming and how it is shaping their worldview.

She encouraged parents to stay involved by knowing what their children are watching and scrolling through, and by fostering open conversations at home. Dialogue, she believes, builds awareness, while silence can allow confusion and curiosity to grow unchecked. Teaching children that not everything online is real, kind, or safe is equally important in helping them navigate the virtual space responsibly.
While parental controls can support safer usage, Shilpa stressed that trust and supervision particularly through the teenage years, should be seen as acts of care rather than control.
Concluding her message, she acknowledged that no parent has all the answers, but insisted that the conversation must begin now. By working together instead of parenting in isolation, families can raise children who are digitally aware rather than digitally dependent equipping them with the confidence and discernment needed for the future.
