Rani Mukerji Reveals Why She Keeps Daughter Adira Away From Spotlight: 'She Must Earn Her Recognition'
Rani Mukerji has always been fiercely private when it comes to her personal life, especially her family with filmmaker husband Aditya Chopra. Their daughter, Adira, is rarely seen in public or photographed by the paparazzi, and now Rani has revealed the thought process behind that decision.
Speaking on the ANI Podcast, the actress shared that she and Aditya are determined to give their daughter a childhood away from the constant glare of the media. “We have the same philosophy for our daughter as well. We did not want her to ever be in a situation where she is overexposed. That she should feel there is anything special going on with her," Rani explained.
“Recognition Should Be Earned"
The actress, who has consistently championed stories about strong women on screen, believes that her daughter should earn her place in the world on her own terms. “Because when she grows up, when she chooses a profession that she needs to choose, then whatever she earns, the recognition will be earned through her merit. She doesn't earn the recognition because she has famous parents. She should earn that herself; it should not come to her as taken for granted," Rani said.
She added that Adira is very much like her father Aditya Chopra when it comes to the concept of privacy, and that she already has a strong point of view. According to Rani, this trait will only help her daughter in the future, as she learns to articulate and express herself independently.
A Family Moment To Remember
Rani and Aditya married in 2014, and their daughter Adira was born the following year. Despite Rani's fame, the couple has successfully kept their child away from the paparazzi, allowing her to grow up without the pressures of stardom.
Recently, Rani was honoured with her first-ever National Award for Best Actress for her performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. At the ceremony held in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, the actress wore a striking brown saree and accessorised with a gold necklace that bore Adira's initials. She also revealed that Adira, who could not attend the event, complained to her mother, saying it was “unfair" that she wasn't allowed to accompany her to the prestigious awards.
