PDP, Congress to support National Conference candidates in Rajya Sabha polls
In a strategic alliance, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Congress are joining forces to support candidates from the National Conference in the Rajya Sabha elections, where four seats are up for grabs in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) and ruling alliance partner Congress have decided to support the National Conference candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections for four seats in J&K. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said her party would support NC candidate Shammi Oberoi as a third preference to prevent BJP from gaining ground.
"We are giving our three votes to the NC's third candidate. We will not vote on the fourth seat. This is to ensure that if BJP wins the fourth seat, the blame is not placed on us," said Mufti.
The main contests for the four Rajya Sabha seats in J&K are between the NC and BJP. Three separate notifications were issued for the elections - two for the first two seats and third for the third and fourth seat.
