Parliament Winter Session Today Live Updates: Parliament is set for a heated day on Tuesday as the Winter Session enters a crucial phase, with sharp exchanges expected between the government and the opposition. Several politically sensitive issues are likely to dominate proceedings in both Houses, raising the prospect of repeated disruptions and strong floor speeches.
MGNREGA to be replaced with G Ram G? A major flashpoint is the government's plan to introduce a bill that will replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGA). The proposed move has already drawn criticism from opposition parties, who argue that MGNREGA remains a lifeline for rural households. They are expected to question both the intent and impact of replacing the long-running employment scheme, particularly at a time of economic stress in rural areas.
The opposition has signalled its intent to corner the government over rising air pollution levels and the worsening air quality index in Delhi-NCR.
Today's agenda: Both Houses of Parliament will resume business at 11 am on Tuesday, with a packed agenda lined up in the Lok Sabha. The Union government is expected to introduce the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, a key piece of legislation that is likely to draw attention across party lines.
The Lok Sabha's list of business for the day begins with Question Hour, followed by the laying of papers by ministers from different ministries. Several Standing Committee reports, including those related to Energy, Railways, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj, will also be presented in the House. Ministers are scheduled to make statements on action taken on earlier recommendations and assurances.
Legislative business will form a major part of the day's proceedings. Apart from the employment-related bill, the House will take up the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill and the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Bill. The Repealing and Amending Bill, 2025 is also listed for introduction and consideration.
With multiple bills and reports on the agenda, Tuesday's sitting is expected to be important for the progress of government business during the Winter Session.
Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha scheduled to resume on Tuesday, December 16, at 11:00 AM.
