Mumbai Buzzing For ICC Women's World Cup Final, But Tickets? All Gone!
How many times have you heard that there are no tickets available for a women's cricket match in India? Well, chances are, probably never. However, the reality is there are no tickets available for Sunday's ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 final between hosts India and South Africa at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, which has a seating capacity of 45,000.
Around 34,651 fans watched India defeat Australia in a thrilling semi-final at the same venue on Thursday (October 30), for which the tickets were available for as low as Rs 150, but for Sunday's final, even when cricket-crazy fans of Mumbai are ready to pay double the amount, there are no tickets.
So why are there no tickets available? Well, the stadium is sold out for Sunday's final.
It sounds almost unreal to hear that a women's cricket match in India is going to be a houseful, but that has been the impact of India's memorable win over Australia.
In the semi-final, India chased down a record total of 339 runs to end Australia's 15-match win streak and book a place in the final.
That one result has injected life into this year's tournament, and now everyone wants to be present at the stadium where India, on Sunday, will have an opportunity to win the ICC title for the first time in women's cricket.
The pressure of arranging tickets was there on everyone associated with the tournament in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, and even India captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that she's been inundated with requests.
“As far as tickets are concerned, you already know that. There are very few days when there is pressure for these small things. So, I think it feels good that there is pressure for tickets and not only for cricket," Harman said while interacting with the media.
There is no better place in India to talk about cricket than Mumbai, and on Saturday, one can feel the vibe of the Women's World Cup in the city.
The fans are confident about India's win in the final after what they managed to pull off against Australia, but there are some who remain cautious, citing the infamous men's ODI World Cup final of 2023 when a dominant India finished runners-up.
“Remember the 2023 final, there as well everyone thought that World Cup was ours, but we lost the final. So, let's wait till Sunday night," said a fan, who was among the thousands hoping to snag tickets for the finale.
Jemimah Rodrigues played one of the most memorable knocks in women's cricket on Thursday, and fans in Mumbai can't stop themselves from talking about the local girl.
Her knock has earned her the label of a true Mumbaikar, and now they are expecting her to produce a similar performance in the final as well.
“That's how we play here in Mumbai, and she is a true Mumbaikar," said a young cricketer, who was training in the DY Patil Academy.
