Ex-TMC MLA Humayun Kabir’s 'Babri' March Suspended Amid Exams
The ‘Babri' march announced by former TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has been temporarily suspended after West Bengal's Malda Police denied permission, citing the ongoing Madhyamik (secondary) examinations.
Kabir, who is now the president of the newly formed Janata Unnayan Party (JUP), had planned to take out a rally from Palashi through Malda to Itahar. Police said several schools fall along the proposed route and granting permission during the exam period could disrupt law and order.
Responding to the police communication, Kabir said he had received requests regarding the matter and would respect the decision. He announced that the march to Itahar has been put on hold for a few days.
Instead, a 22-kilometre foot march will be held from the Palashi Monument to Beldanga's Babri Masjid site on Thursday morning.

Kabir has triggered a political controversy in Bengal after announcing plans to rebuild the Babri Masjid, the 16th-century mosque in Ayodhya that was demolished in 1992. Earlier today, construction work for a replica of the Babri Masjid began in Murshidabad district. Kabir said the mosque is expected to be completed within two years.
Speaking at the site, Kabir said people are free to practise their religion and build places of worship. “My effort is for Islam to please Allah and perform my devotion it is not about imposing anything," he said.
Meanwhile, a complaint has been lodged at Maidan Police Station against Kabir. The complaint, filed by Haji Mohammad Parvez Siddiqui on behalf of a Muslim organisation, alleges that ahead of elections he is trying to disturb law and order in the name of constructing a mosque under the title ‘Babri'.
