ET GenAI Hackathon 2026: Phase 1 results out, prototype stage begins
The ET GenAI Hackathon 2026 has announced the results of its Idea Submission phase, with the shortlist finalised after evaluating entries from more than 54,000 builders across India. Shortlisted teams now advance to the Prototype Development Phase, where they will build functional generative AI solutions addressing real-world challenges. With a ₹10 lakh prize pool and enterprise-grade problem statements, the competition enters its most consequential stage yet.
Thousands had an idea. Only the strongest made the cut.
The ET GenAI Hackathon 2026 has crossed its first major milestone, with the results of the Idea Submission phase officially announced. After drawing entries from more than 54,000 builders, developers and students across India, the shortlist has been finalised, and the competition now enters its most consequential stage yet.
Phase 2 is where the real work begins.
The Prototype Development Phase shifts the challenge from imagination to implementation. Shortlisted teams will move beyond concepts and into building, developing functional generative AI prototypes designed to address real-world problems. Phase 1 asked participants to think, Phase 2 is the time to deliver.
Teams advancing to this stage will now work towards building and submitting their prototypes by , the deadline for the Prototype Development Phase.
It is an important distinction. Ideation is where innovation begins. Execution is where it is tested.
The hackathon has always been structured with this in mind, a multi-stage challenge that mirrors how ideas actually become products. Not every concept survives contact with a problem statement, a deadline, and the pressure of building something that genuinely works. The teams that advance now face exactly that challenge.
The scale of participation speaks to something larger. More than 54,000 builders entered a competition that did not promise easy wins, it promised a real platform, enterprise-grade challenges, and a ₹10 lakh prize pool for solutions that earned it. That kind of response reflects where India's developer community currently stands: hungry, capable, and increasingly fluent in the language of generative AI.
The ET GenAI Hackathon is being conducted in partnership with Unstop, the technology platform powering the competition and enabling participation at scale.
