'Does INDI Alliance Exist Any More?' BJP's Jibe At Opposition After BMC Poll Win
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) struck a triumphant note on Tuesday after its strong showing in the Maharashtra civic polls, using the occasion to question the very relevance of the opposition's INDIA alliance. Addressing a press conference in Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the election results reflected a clear endorsement of the party's development agenda and leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Does the INDIA bloc still exist or not," Trivedi asked, arguing that the civic poll outcomes had exposed deep cracks within the opposition. “Those who allege vote chori must answer who has stolen your allies – Modi or Shah," he added.
He said the people of Maharashtra had “set the seal for a new era of development aimed at cultural pride and economic prosperity," signalling growing acceptance of the BJP-led NDA and its allies across urban India.
Highlighting the party's performance, Trivedi pointed to the BJP-led Mahayuti's victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), describing it as “arguably Asia's biggest municipal corporation." “You all have witnessed that today BJP and alliance parties — Mahayuti — have registered a great victory in BMC polls. This shows that BJP and NDA's acceptance is ever increasing under the leadership of PM Modi," he said.
In a sharp attack at Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), Trivedi said, “This BMC Poll outcome should be the reason for Shiv Sena to introspect. Are they with those who are building Babri Masjid in Murshidabad in Bengal or not? Uddhav doesn't represent Balasaheb's legacy."
The BJP leader also drew attention to recent municipal gains outside Maharashtra to underline what he called a broader national trend. “Recently, we won a majority for the first time in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala Municipal Corporation polls," Trivedi noted, adding that successive victories were evidence of the party's expanding footprint even in regions traditionally considered difficult terrain.
Trivedi credited young voters for the outcome, saying, “Gen Z voted for Viksit Bharat." According to him, the youth had responded positively to the BJP's promise of infrastructure-led growth, job creation, and a strong national identity. He said the results showed that first-time and young voters were increasingly aligning with the party's vision for a developed India.
