CBSE Releases Section-Wise Guidelines For Class 10 Science And Social Science Board Exams
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released guidelines for Class 10 students to follow while answering their Science and Social Science board examinations. As per the official announcement, Class 10 question papers will be divided into specific sections outlined below:
Science: Three dedicated sections
Section A – Biology
Section B – Chemistry
Section C – Physics
Social Science: Four distinct sections
Section A – History
Section B – Geography
Section C – Political Science
Section D – Economics
CBSE requires students to divide their answer books into clearly labelled sections before starting the examination. For Science papers, students must create three sections for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. For Social Science papers, four sections must be made for History, Geography, Political Science, and Economics.
This section-wise structure must be consistently maintained throughout the answer book to ensure that responses are written only under their designated headings, thereby preventing any loss of marks.
CBSE further stated that marks will not be given for answers written outside their designated sections, even if they are factually correct. The Board has urged schools to familiarize students with the new format through classroom practice and Pre-Board exams, emphasizing that no corrections will be permitted during verification or revaluation.

“Replies of questions are to be written only within the space identified for the concerned section only. Reply of a section should not be written or mixed in any other section. In case, if replies are mixed, these will not be evaluated and no marks will be awarded. Such mistakes will not be accepted and addressed even during verification or revaluation process after the results are declared,' reads the official notice.
Students have been advised to review the sample question papers available on the CBSE Academic website to understand how questions are grouped and how answers should be presented. The complete pattern is detailed in the official notice released by CBSE, which students can download by clicking on the provided link.
