‘Babri Masjid’ foundation stone to be laid on Dec 6 in Murshidabad, claims TMC MLA Humayun Kabir; posters surface

TMC MLA Humayun Kabir announced plans to lay the foundation stone for a "Babri Masjid" on December 6 in Murshidabad, sparking sharp political reactions. The BJP criticized the move as "appeasement politics" and a vote-bank strategy, while the TMC leadership distanced itself from Kabir's remarks. Congress leader Udit Raj defended the move, citing religious freedom.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir on Tuesday reiterated that the foundation stone of a “Babri Masjid” will be laid on December 6 in Beldanga, Murshidabad district, triggering sharp political reactions across West Bengal.
Posters connected to the proposed event appeared across the district ahead of the announcement, ANI has reported.
The date marks the 33rd anniversary of the demolition of the disputed Babri Masjid structure in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992 by Kar Sevaks.
"We will lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid on 6th December in Beldanga, Murshidabad district," Kabir said. The TMC leader added that the mosque is planned to be completed in three years and also claimed participation from various Muslim leaders in the event.
BJP calls move “appeasement politics”
Kabir's remarks prompted a strong response from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Party national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticised the MLA's announcement as politically motivated.Calling the plan "appeasement pro-max politics of TMC," Poonawalla said the comments reflect a vote-bank strategy. He claimed the TMC leadership supports abusive rhetoric against Hindus for electoral gain.
"This is the appeasement pro-max politics of TMC. TMC now means 'Tushti Karan Mujhe Chahiye'. This controversial Humayun Kabir, who says he will chop off Hindus and throw them into Bhagirath, is now making yet another controversial statement because their philosophy is, give Hindus gali and take vote bank ki tali (abuse Hindus to gain a vote bank)," said Poonawalla.
He further alleged that TMC has repeatedly opposed Hindu sentiments. "They are the same people who oppose 'Jai Shri Ram', Ram Mandir, who have insulted 'Maa Sita,' 'Maa Durga,' 'Maa Kali', and say Sanatan should be eliminated," Poonawalla told ANI.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh also targeted the ruling party, stating that the event has broader political implications. "The TMC will not lay the foundation stone of the Babri Masjid, but the foundation stone of Bangladesh," Singh said.
He further added that "the Mamata Banerjee government run on the support of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas" and warned that "the way they are playing politics on the dead bodies of Hindus will not last long."
TMC Leadership Distances Itself From Kabir
However, TMC's North 24 Parganas MLA Nirmal Ghosh clarified that the party does not endorse Kabir's remarks."He (Humayun Kabir) is not in contact with the party. His speeches have nothing to do with the party. They are his own statements, but the party doesn't agree with them. He has gone beyond the limits," Ghosh told ANI.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Udit Raj countered the criticism directed at Kabir, emphasising equal religious rights. "If the foundation stone of a temple can be laid, what's the problem with laying the foundation stone for a mosque? Those who oppose it are creating meaningless speculation. This is religious freedom in this country and in all countries," ANI quoted Raj as saying.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
