New Aadhaar app: You can update mobile number online for just Rs 75; step-by-step guide
New Aadhaar app launched: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out a new Aadhaar mobile application, that offers different features from the existing Aadhaar app. Among the new features in the app includes face verification for proof of presence, biometric lock or unlock in a single click, viewing of authentication history and a QR-based contact card for easy sharing of contact details.
The Aadhaar App also supports hotel check-ins via offline verification seeking entity's (OVSE) QR code scanning. It further allows optional face verification, age verification for cinema ticket bookings, hospital admissions for visitors and attendants, verification of gig workers and service partners among many such use cases.
For Aadhaar users who have been waiting to update or change their phone numbers linked to the app, can now click on the ‘mobile number update' option in the new Aadhaar app for the same. However, for updating your mobile number or address through the Aadhaar app involves a minimal fee.
There is a service charge of Rs 75, which can be paid directly within the app.
Once you have downloaded the latest version of the Aadhaar app on your Android or iOS device app:
— Open the app and log in using Aadhaar-based authentication.
— Go to the ‘services' section on the home screen.
— Select ‘update mobile number'.
Once you click on this option, the app will show your current registered mobile number. You have to enter the new mobile number that you want to link.
— An OTP will be sent to the new number. Enter the OTP to verify the request.
— Complete the authentication process as prompted in the app.
— Once the OTP is verified, the update request is submitted to UIDAI.
For users, who are seeking to update their address on the Aadhaar app, need to upload a valid proof of address document and verify the details. They have to complete the request with an in-app payment.
According to UIDAI, the app has been developed as part of the government's push to strengthen digital public infrastructure and reduce the need for physical documents in everyday transactions.
“The Aadhaar App empowers residents with greater control over their personal information while ensuring secure and seamless identity verification,” UIDAI said on its official website.
Officials said the app could make identity checks smoother at airports, hotels, banks and government offices, where Aadhaar is commonly required. By limiting data sharing to only what is necessary, UIDAI hopes to improve trust in digital verification.
The authority has advised citizens to download the app only from official app stores and refer to the UIDAI website for authentic information and updates.
Earlier this month, the UIDAI launched the Aadhaar mascot, a new resident-facing communication companion to simplify public understanding of Aadhaar services.
The Aadhaar mascot named Udai helps in making Aadhaar-related information more relatable and people-friendly. It simplifies communication of Aadhaar services, including updates, authentication, offline verification, selective sharing of information, new technology adoption and responsible usage, among others.
