Yasin Malik Claims PM Manmohan Singh Thanked Him After 2006 LeT Meeting
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has sought the death penalty for Malik in a terror funding case. Malik is also under trial for his alleged involvement in the 1990 Srinagar attack that killed four Indian Air Force personnel, including Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna, and injured 22 others.
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) terrorist Yasin Malik, currently serving a life sentence in a terror funding case, has claimed that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh personally expressed gratitude to him following his 2006 meeting with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan.
BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya shared these details in a post on X, stating that Malik mentioned in an affidavit submitted to the Delhi High Court on August 25 that the meeting with Saeed was not his own initiative but had been arranged at the request of senior Indian intelligence officials as part of a back-channel peace process. Malik further claimed that then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh personally thanked him after the meeting.
"Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) terrorist Yasin Malik, serving a life sentence in a terror-funding case, has made a shocking claim. In an affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court on August 25, Malik says: He met Lashkar-e-Taiba founder and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan in 2006. The meeting was not his independent initiative but was arranged at the request of senior Indian intelligence officials as part of a back-channel peace process. After the meeting, then-PM Manmohan Singh personally thanked and expressed gratitude to him," Malviya said in a post on X.

Malviya added that if Malik's claims are accurate, they raise serious questions about the handling of national security and back-channel diplomacy by the UPA government.
"Yasin Malik is a hardened terrorist who is guilty of gunning down three Air Force personnel in uniform. This amounts to waging war against the state and he must be subjected to the full force of the law. If these new claims are true, they raise grave questions about the UPA's handling of national security and back-channel diplomacy," he added in the post.

A retired IAF officer, acting as a key eyewitness in the case, identified Malik as the shooter, saying he opened fire indiscriminately from an automatic rifle while lifting his pheran (Kashmiri overgarment) during the attack. Malik is currently in Tihar Jail, where he has been held since 2019.
