‘Won’t Be Able To Work, Eyes Burning’: Gen Z Employee Sends ‘Order’ To Delhi Boss. Internet Says ‘No Drama, Just Honesty’

Yet another Gen Z employee has caught the Internet's attention, sparking conversations once again about how the younger generation prioritises their health and well-being above all else. The incident unfolded when a millennial boss shared on social media that his employee did not request leave, but rather “ordered" him to take leave due to their poor health caused by Delhi's severe pollution.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, the boss shared his WhatsApp conversation with his Gen Z employee. The latter, who was struggling with eye irritation caused by the toxic air quality in the national capital, informed the employer that they would not be able to work. They sent a simple text to their boss, saying, “I won't be able to work today. My eyes are burning." The boss approved the request, replying to the text with an “Ok."

Boss Says He Received An “Order" From His Gen Z Employee

But later, he posted the screenshot of their brief conversation, writing in the caption, “Amid severe Delhi pollution, I received an order from my employee today. GenZ is really straightforward!" His post has now gone viral, with many siding with the Gen Z employee, highlighting that the text looked completely normal and the individual did not order their boss at any point.

Internet Is Divided Over Gen Z Employee's Text To Their Boss

One user said, “How is this an order? He just informed? Isn't this how one should inform? If he is sick, he is sick."

Another commented, “Love how straightforward they are. No drama, no excuses, just honesty, exactly how it should be."

“The day people take it as normal, Indian work culture will be better," said someone else.

A different individual noted, “This is not a request, definitely not an order. It's just plain communication, which should be appreciated."

Meanwhile, some people also came out in support of the boss, with one saying, “His message sounds like he's bossy." To this, the boss replied, “Hahah, GenZ doesn't believe in taking orders, they prefer to give orders!"

One person also highlighted how pollution is causing a rise in such cases, writing, “I predict a drastic increase in such cases now. Sick leaves due to air pollution. I spent a few days in Pune last week and have had a sore throat since. I could tell that this wasn't your average common cold. Getting better now after returning to my small town."

The boss responded, “Agreed. Even though we founders are falling sick, but still dragging ourselves to work every day. That's the reality of being a founder; there's no one to ask for leave. Delhi's air is getting worse by the day. It's an emergency now, yet no one seems to care. The government is silent and will only wake up when it's election time." His response led another individual to say, “True that and nobody forced you to be a founder."
