Matrimonial apps have always been part of India's matchmaking scene for a long time. Platforms like Shaadi.com and Jeevansathi have helped numerous people find their ideal partners. Now, one more name is joining the list: Knot.dating. But there's a twist.
The application gained attention after a lawyer shared a video on Instagram discussing it. Her post has since sparked widespread conversation online.
AI Matrimonial App For “Top 1% Men" In India
In her video, the lawyer introduced Knot.dating as an AI-based matrimonial app in India. “Forget Tinder, Shaadi.com, there's a brand new AI matrimonial app in India called Knot.com. And it's not for all Indians, it's for the top 1 per cent men. Yes, that's where you find the top 1 per cent men of India," she said.
She explained how the app has separate entry rules for men and women. “Men must earn at least 50 lakhs a year to join this and find matches. Women have no conditions at all," she said. Calling the idea out, she added, “The whole thing screams gold digger central. You can just walk in and shop for a rich husband. I mean, what was this person thinking, so shamelessly creating an app for women to dig gold like that?"
The lawyer also pointed out that the app was created by two men. “Two men came up with the idea to create this app for high-value men to find women. So, the theory that men who cry gold diggers have no gold just got so real," she said.

Soon after the video went viral, the matrimonial app responded in the comments section, writing, “Humein kyun toda?"
Everyone Had A Take On It
Since being shared online, the video has gained more than three lakh views. Not only this, but it also led to a wave of mixed reactions online. Some viewers agreed with her take, while others thought the idea wasn't as bad as it sounded.
One user commented, “It is always wise to marry someone at social, financial and intellectual parity. I would have totally looked up this website. Why not!?"
Another said, “Education and money don't guarantee manners and an open mindset. I have learned this recently."
“There should be a salary criterion for women too, to sign up on the app just like men. 50 lacs minimum annual CTC," someone else wrote.
“So less than 1% men actually have gold," a comment read.
“Reverse the gender and you will find men calling out women on the app as ‘difficult' and too ‘demanding' and families saying ‘zyada padha likha diya ladkiyo ko'," a person shared.
An individual replied, “They actually created this app so that these top-tier men can shop for women they deem are inferior to them. That's my guess."
“Such an idiotic idea. And I'm wondering how these guys might be finding their false pride. I'm judging all these guys who are ok to get married basis their income level being disclosed like this and vice versa as well," read another comment.
Founders On Rs 50 Lakh Filter
According to BusinessWire India, Knot.dating was founded by Jasveer Singh and Abhishek Asthana. Jasveer Singh, the Co-founder and CEO, described it as a platform for people who are serious about marriage. “As the name suggests, it's not a dating app; it's for people who are tired of dating and ready to tie the knot," he said.
When asked about the 50-lakh annual income filter for men, Singh explained that the rule is not about money but ambition. “We needed a hard filter that creates clarity, not chaos. 50L is that line in the sand. It tells you something about who someone is, how they think, and where they're headed," he told the outlet.
The app is available on Android, iOS and web.
