Why Pakistani Rapper Talha Anjum Waved The Indian Flag At His Concert? Here's What We Know
Pakistani rapper Talha Anjum has found himself at the centre of an international social-media storm after a video of him waving the Indian flag during his concert in Nepal went viral. The clip shows the 30-year-old artist accepting the tricolour from a fan in the crowd, waving it above his head, and later draping it around his shoulders while performing onstage.
The moment triggered mixed reactions online: while many applauded the gesture as a rare display of South Asian unity, others — particularly from Pakistan — criticised him harshly for “crossing a line."
Talha Anjum Responds to Backlash: “My Art Has No Borders"
The rapper later addressed the criticism directly on X, defending his actions and stressing that his expression was rooted in humanity, not politics.
“My heart has no place for hate. My art has no borders. If me raising an Indian flag sparks controversy so be it. I'll do it again," he wrote. “I will never care about the media, the war-mongering governments and their propagandas. Urdu rap is and will always be borderless."
His statement only intensified the debate, with fans from both countries weighing in on nationalism, artistic freedom, and cross-border cultural tensions.
Who Is Talha Anjum?
Talha Anjum, born and raised in Karachi, is one of Pakistan's most prominent hip-hop voices. In 2012, he co-founded the Urdu rap duo Young Stunners with Talhah Yunus. The pair rose to fame with Burger-e-Karachi, eventually becoming household names in South Asian rap circles.
Though primarily known for music, Anjum has also stepped into acting. In 2024, he starred in the feature film Kattar Karachi alongside Kinza Hashmi and Imran Ashraf.
With over 3 million Instagram followers, Anjum commands a massive online fanbase — though, like many Pakistani artists, his profile remains inaccessible in India due to platform restrictions.
The Talha Anjum–Naezy Feud
Anjum's name had already been circling Indian social media due to his feud with Indian rapper Naezy. The controversy erupted when Naezy, in an interview, said he did not recognise Anjum and made dismissive remarks about his popularity.
“He thinks everyone knows him and that he is like AR Rahman. He's safe because he's in Pakistan. Now, he cannot visit India. In Mumbai, he would have been beaten like a dog," Naezy said — comments that drew widespread criticism for their tone.
Anjum responded musically, releasing a diss track titled Kaun Talha, which quickly gained traction across rap communities.
Debate Continues Online
Talha Anjum's gesture at the Nepal concert has now added a new layer to the ongoing feud and sparked a broader conversation about regional politics and cross-border artistic exchange. While some praise him for challenging nationalist divisions, others accuse him of disrespecting his home country.
For now, the rapper appears unfazed — doubling down on his belief that art remains “borderless," even when the world around it is not.
