Trump, Sisi To Co-Chair Gaza Peace Summit In Egypt; Over 20 Nations To Attend Meet

An international peace summit will take place in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday, 13 October, aimed at finalising an agreement to end the war in Gaza. The meeting, titled the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, will be jointly chaired by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, leaders from over 20 countries are expected to attend the crucial gathering.

The summit seeks to consolidate the recently achieved ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and establish a framework for long-term peace and stability in the Middle East. “The summit aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the region, and usher in a new phase of security," the Egyptian presidency said. It added that the meeting reflects President Trump's broader vision of achieving peace and ending global conflicts.

The United States has extended invitations to several key international partners, including Spain, Japan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Hungary, India, El Salvador, Cyprus, Greece, Bahrain, Kuwait and Canada, Axios reported. Iran has also been invited, although Israel will not be participating in the talks.

The summit will serve as a platform for leaders to endorse the ceasefire deal and discuss the implementation of humanitarian and reconstruction measures for Gaza.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect on Friday, following three days of intense negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh mediated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States. The first phase of the plan involves the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza City, Rafah, Khan Younis and northern Gaza, the opening of five humanitarian crossings, and the release of hostages and prisoners.

As per reports, the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt is expected to reopen by mid-next week, enabling limited civilian movement.
