The toll from flooding and landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka increased to 355 on Monday, Daily Mirror quoted the country's disaster management centre as saying.

More than 360 persons were missing, the centre added. About 11.1 lakh persons were affected as several parts of the island nation continued to face heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides.

Railway services and flights had resumed after being disrupted late last week, Reuters quoted officials as saying on Monday. Schools remained closed.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had on Saturday declared a state of emergency to deal with the devastation caused by the cyclone. He also appealed for international help.

The cyclone had weakened into a deep depression along the coast of India's Tamil Nadu, the India Meteorological Department said on Monday afternoon. It was centred about 50 km east of Chennai and 140 km north-east of Puducherry at 11.30 am.

The storm was likely to move slowly north, parallel to the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh, before weakening further by Monday evening.
