In her petition, Sangeetha has alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress and has sought divorce on these grounds.
As per reports, Sangeetha Vijay has filed a divorce petition at the District Court in Chengalpattu against her husband, C Joseph Vijay Chandrasekar, a leading Tamil film actor and TVK leader. The petition seeks dissolution of their marriage, citing emotional cruelty, neglect, and an alleged extramarital relationship.
Actor Vijay’s Wife Sangeetha Files For Divorce
According to the petition, Sangeetha discovered in April 2021 that her husband was involved in a relationship with an actress. Despite assurances that it would end, the association allegedly continued. Attempts to resolve the matter amicably between September 2021 and February 2022 through legal counsel reportedly failed. The petition also claims Vijay became emotionally withdrawn and subjected her to mental cruelty and neglect.
The petition states that Vijay allegedly continued to appear publicly and travel with the actress, with related posts circulating on social media. These actions reportedly caused humiliation to Sangeetha and their children. While the actress is not named in the filing, Sangeetha has reserved the right to do so during proceedings if required. As per the petition, Vijay allegedly imposed financial restrictions on Sangeetha and withdrew certain facilities she previously enjoyed. The filing contends that the marriage has irretrievably broken down and now exists only “on paper.” Multiple efforts, including personal discussions as recently as November 9, 2025, reportedly failed to achieve an amicable resolution.

In her petition, Sangeetha has requested the court to dissolve the marriage solemnized on August 25, 1999, and allow her the right to reside in the matrimonial home in Neelankarai, Chennai, until the petition is disposed of or suitable alternative accommodation is arranged. She has also sought fair and reasonable permanent alimony in line with Vijay’s income and status, and requested that proceedings be conducted in camera to safeguard the privacy and dignity of all parties involved.

Sangeetha, once a devoted fan of Vijay, eventually became his wife. The couple, married for 25 years, have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha. Vijay’s breakthrough came with Poove Unakkaga, and in 1996, Sangeetha flew from the UK to Chennai to meet her favourite actor during a film shoot at Film City. Her visit reportedly impressed Vijay’s family, and marriage proposals were soon exchanged. Sangeetha’s father, a Tamil industrialist from Sri Lanka settled in the UK, consented to the union, and the families agreed to the match. Currently, Sangeetha is said to be residing in London with her parents.
