‘Talented Bahu’ Sings ‘Ek Din Aap’, But Internet In Shock As In-Laws Only Care About Her ‘Ghungat’
A newly married bride has been drawing significant attention online, not for her first steps into her new home, her first meal, or any traditional “firsts," but for her first song. In a now-viral video, the bride, Tanya Singh, is seen sitting with her in-laws during a small family ritual, guitar in hand, as she performs Ek Din Aap from the 1997 film Yes Boss.
Her serene voice immediately captivates the room, bringing a hush over everyone present. But another moment in the video has sparked criticism towards her in-laws. Just before the bride begins singing, a woman seated in front repeatedly tries to pull the bride's long ghunghat down to fully cover her face. Tanya calmly adjusts it back each time, ensuring she can see and breathe comfortably before starting her performance
Bride's First Song Steals All the Attention
The clip opens with the bride preparing to sing, but the woman seated in front keeps pulling her ghunghat down to cover her face. Each time, Tanya gently lifts it back up so she can sit comfortably. The woman tries again to lower it, and once more, the bride readjusts it before beginning her song. While the moment may seem ordinary at first glance, many social media users were upset by the repeated attempts to fix the veil. Viewers remarked that the bride is clearly talented, yet those around her seemed more concerned about her ghunghat than her performance.
The video posted on Instagram came with the caption, “If talent par ghunghant daalna had a scene."

Ghunghat Tug Of War Sparks Online Debate
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “We still live in an India where ghunghat is valued more than talent."
Another shared, “A talented bahu, but in law's only care about ghunghat."
“This video is a clear depiction of how women themselves embrace patriarchy," a comment read.
An individual stated, “Isn't it sad how the girl is so talented and the only focus of the women around her is on the height of her ghunghat! Just in case chin reveal ho jaye! I'm tired of seeing women around pulling other women down even in the slightest ways. Will this ever change? I am so sad."
Another mentioned, “She deserves much better in-laws, her talent won't be appreciated there as much as it deserves."

One more added, “At this age, when my parents are looking for a rishta for me, my mom told me one day that I should learn some sangeet because I might need it. I told her that I can already play the guitar and sing these songs. Now I can show her this video and tell her that I'll perform this in the mahila sangeet. And one more thing, your voice is just amazing. You've given me the confidence to do it."
