They are usually praised for being clean, but even with rules and cameras in place, some people continue to ignore the law. A passenger on Mumbai Metro's newly opened Aqua Line shared a photo showing gutka stains on the platform, highlighting how quickly public spaces can be misused. This incident has sparked concern among commuters.
Seeing stains on brand new metro facilities just days after opening has disappointed many. Several people suggested imposing fines and punishing those responsible. Some recommended using CCTV footage to catch the culprits, while others felt that fellow commuters should take steps to teach such people a lesson.

The image posted on X came with the caption, “Mumbai Metro Line 3 Day. Divided by States, united by Spit."
Social Media Users Demand Strict Action
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “This is also visible in Line 7, they have stealthily spray painted the sidewalls of the escalators and also on the facade from the platform."
Another shared, “Govt doesn't want a solution for this. They are totally ok with it because enforcing basic civic sense and banning gutka will have political costs."
“Maharashtra Security Force has been handed over to Station Security today at 5 AM. Such things are mostly done by Labourers working on Metro Site," a comment read.
An individual stated, “Other commuters must confront spitters."
Another mentioned, “Possible that this may be from the construction phase as well and cleaning not done properly. In other lines, these stains are not visible."
One more added, “High time paan and gutka are banned for sale in public places. Apart from causing diseases and dirt, they achieve nothing. Let the paan lovers make and eat paan at home and stain their walls. Patna Metro's First Phase Details."

Similar scenes were captured in Patna's metro after it was launched earlier this week. A clip circulating online shows the metro stations and platforms stained with gutka.
