Say Goodbye To ‘Boring’ White Blanket Covers In Trains, Railways Brings Jaipuri Print Set For AC Coaches
Train journeys are about to get a little colourful and a lot more comfortable. Indian Railways has launched a new initiative where passengers travelling in AC coaches will receive blanket covers adorned with traditional Sanganeri prints which highlights Rajasthan's rich textile heritage. The project was launched as a pilot at Jaipur's Khatipura Railway Station and will be tested on select trains before being introduced across the country.
The move aims to replace the plain white blankets that often drew complaints from passengers about cleanliness. On the first day of the rollout, travellers on the Jaipur–Ahmedabad (Asarva) Express, which departed at 8:45 PM, were given these new printed covers.
Bringing Culture To Travel
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the initiative and said that the new covers are washable, long-lasting and designed for easy maintenance. He mentioned that the fabric has been carefully selected to ensure both durability and quality.
He also said that the project is not only about passenger comfort but also about supporting Indian craftsmanship and textile art. “Just as we use blankets with covers at home, passengers will now receive them in trains. If successful, this project will be expanded nationwide, and traditional prints from different states will be showcased on Indian Railways," the Minister said.
The initiative has been introduced on a trial basis in Jaipur and could be implemented across India if it receives good feedback.

‘Ab Dar Nahi Lagega,' Social Media Reacts
Many passengers appreciated the new covers and said the change made them feel more comfortable about using railway bedding. One passenger told IANS, “Earlier, blankets were given without covers. Now, with clean covers, hygiene will be maintained."
Another traveller added, “I often carry my own blanket due to allergies, but this new initiative reassures me that the Railways is focusing on hygiene."
The news also sparked a lively discussion online. One user wrote, “A good initiative to promote culture and art."
Another added, “That's something pretty cool. This minimal change will bring a lot of colourful conversation."
A person jokingly wrote, “Accha hai. Ab raat ko padoshi ko dekh kar dar nahi lagega. Pehle shamshan ghat wali feeling aati thi (Good thing, now I won't be scared seeing my neighbour at night. Earlier it felt like waking up in a cremation ground)."
“Kuch log pehle ise ghar le jayenge (Some people will take these to their homes)," someone else remarked.
