Salman Khan On Why He Doesn't Eat Beef: 'Gaay Humari Bhi Maata Hai' | Viral
Salman Khan has always been open about his food habits, but one particular choice has drawn attention over the years. While many fans have often wondered about his diet, the superstar once made it clear why beef is not a part of it. His father, veteran writer Salim Khan, has also spoken on the subject, explaining how the family approaches food and faith.
Salim Khan On Family's Beliefs
In a recent interview, Salim Khan spoke about his marriage to Salma Khan (formerly Sushila Charak) and the way the family celebrates Hindu festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi. He said, “From Indore until today, we have never had beef. Beef is eaten by most Muslims as it is the cheapest meat! Some even buy it to feed pet dogs."
Explaining further, he added, “But in the teachings of Prophet Mohammed, he has clearly stated that a cow's milk is a substitute for mother's milk and it is a mufid (beneficial) cheez. He has stated that cows should not be killed and beef is forbidden."
He also pointed out how Prophet Mohammed adopted practices from other religions: “Prophet Mohammed has adopted good things from every religion. Like eating only halaal meat which was adopted from the Jews, who call it kosher. He has postulated that every religion is good and believes in a Supreme Power like we do."
Salman Khan's Eating Beef
Back in 2018, Salman shared his own view during an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat. Asked about his food choices, he said, “I eat everything. I just don't eat beef and pork."
He explained, “Gaay hamari bhi maata hai. Main maanta hu meri maa hai woh kyunki meri khudki maa Hindu hai. Mere pita Muslim hain. Meri dusri maa Helen Christian hai… Hum poora Hindustaan hai (Cow is my mother too because my mother is a Hindu. My father is a Muslim, my second mother Helen is Christian. We are an Indian family)."
Meanwhile, on the work front, Salman Khan has officially started shooting for his highly anticipated war drama, Battle of Galwan, in Ladakh. The film marks a fresh collaboration between Salman Khan and actress Chitrangda Singh. The cast boasts talents including Zeyn Shaw, Ankur Bhatia, Harshil Shah, Heera Sohall, Abhilash Chaudhary, and Vipin Bhardwaj. Battle of Galwan is based on true events from June 2020, when Indian and Chinese soldiers fought in the remote, high-altitude Galwan Valley in Ladakh.
