Randeep Hooda Revisits His 2016 MMA Body And Drastic Weight Loss For Savarkar
Few actors in Indian cinema have treated their bodies as rigorously, or as fearlessly, as Randeep Hooda. Known for disappearing into his roles, the actor has repeatedly redefined the limits of physical transformation, often at immense personal cost. His latest Instagram post, shared over the weekend, offers a stark visual reminder of just how far he has pushed himself in the pursuit of authenticity.
The collage juxtaposes two drastically different versions of Randeep Hooda, separated by nearly eight years. One image shows a lean, visibly frail physique from his preparation for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (2024), while the other revisits his formidable, MMA-trained body from Do Lafzon Ki Kahani (2016). Alongside the post, Randeep posed a deceptively simple question: “Which one of these, you think, is harder to achieve?"
A post shared by Randeep Hooda (@randeephooda)
For Do Lafzon Ki Kahani, Hooda underwent intense Mixed Martial Arts training, sculpting a powerful, agile frame that required both strength and endurance. Released the same year as Sarbjit, the film demanded rapid physical transitions. The actor reportedly shifted between near-starvation and consuming multiple meals a day – training relentlessly to maintain the speed, balance, and muscle memory of a professional fighter.
The physicality was not merely aesthetic; it was functional. Hooda had to move like an athlete, endure like one, and recover like one.
If gaining muscle tested discipline, losing it nearly cost Randeep his life. For Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, which also marked his directorial debut, the actor subjected himself to prolonged undernourishment to authentically portray Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
In a 2024 interview with Mid-Day, Hooda candidly described the toll: “I was underweight for one-and-a-half years…I had lost all my muscle mass. I recall passing out and tumbling off [my] horse… that's what happens when you deprive yourself of food for a long time. I couldn't even walk."
Randeep Hooda's journey raises larger questions about health, sustainability, and the romanticisation of extreme transformations in cinema. While such physical dedication is often applauded, it also highlights the thin line between commitment and compromise.
His Instagram comparison is not just about aesthetics. It's a reflection on endurance, recovery, and the long-term impact of pushing the human body beyond safe limits.
