Composer and filmmaker Palash Muchhal appears to be channeling his focus back to work after weeks of intense public scrutiny surrounding his personal life. Following the cancellation of his wedding with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, Palash is now gearing up for his next directorial venture, which will feature Shreyas Talpade in a pivotal role.
The yet-untitled film is set against the backdrop of Mumbai and is expected to go on floors shortly. While conversations around Palash's personal life continue to dominate social media, the filmmaker seems determined to move ahead professionally, marking a new phase in his journey as a director.
The announcement was made by film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who shared the update on social media. He wrote, “SHREYAS TALPADE TO STAR IN PALASH MUCHHAL'S NEXT FILM… #ShreyasTalpade will head the cast of director #PalashMuchhal's upcoming, as-yet-untitled film, stepping into the role of a common man.Set against the backdrop of #Mumbai, filming is expected to commence soon."
Shreyas Talpade will reportedly be seen playing a common man, a space the actor is widely known for. While details about the storyline, supporting cast, and release timeline remain under wraps, sources indicate that the project will begin shooting in Mumbai in the coming weeks. Notably, this marks the first film Palash has taken up since his cancelled wedding made headlines earlier in November.
To recap, Palash Muchhal and Smriti Mandhana were set to tie the knot on November 23, 2025, after dating for several years. Palash had famously proposed to the cricketer on a cricket ground, and the couple had even completed pre-wedding ceremonies, including sangeet and haldi.
However, just a day before the wedding, rumours alleging Palash's infidelity with a choreographer surfaced online. While the claims were never officially verified, the families first announced a postponement and later confirmed that the wedding had been cancelled.
For Smriti Mandhana, 2025 turned out to be a year of both professional highs and personal turbulence. While she celebrated a historic Women's World Cup victory, her wedding controversy became a subject of widespread discussion. Notably, she did not mention Palash in her 2025 recap video shared on social media. Looking ahead, Smriti struck an optimistic note, sharing that her 2026 journey would be “a game," and emphasised staying consistent and motivated.
