Noida International Amity School bus: Panic erupted at Amity International School in Sector 44, Noida, on Thursday when a six-year-old UKG student was found locked inside a parked school bus hours after he was supposed to reach school.
The incident, reported from the Delhi-adjacent city, has left parents anxious and raised serious questions about the school's transport safety measures.
According to reports, the child boarded the school bus from home in the morning, as he regularly does. During the journey, he fell asleep in his seat. At some point, the bus reportedly broke down, and the children on board were transferred to another bus to continue their journey to school. However, the student who had fallen asleep remained in the vehicle. After reaching the school, the bus staff helped the students get off, but didn’t check the bus properly. It was then parked 25 kilometers away, leaving the child inside for several hours.
The incident came to light in the afternoon when the child did not arrive at his scheduled stop. The worried parents contacted the school and were initially told that the child was marked absent in the class attendance register, while the bus attendance record showed him present. This discrepancy increased the parents' anxiety, prompting a search. After hours of uncertainty, the child was found in the parked bus, distressed, tired, and dehydrated, but fortunately, unharmed.
The incident has angered parents, who have criticized the school, calling it a systemic failure rather than a single staff member's mistake. Many parents have called for stronger safety measures, such as physically checking each bus after every trip, matching bus attendance with class attendance in real time, and immediately informing parents if a child does not get off the bus. Some parents also questioned why such serious lapses could happen even as the school keeps increasing its fees, emphasizing that the safety of children must remain the school’s highest priority.
The child's mother shared her experience on social media, describing the distress the family faced when the child was missing. She urged other parents to be vigilant about their children's safety on school transport and stressed the need for thorough vehicle checks.
Amity International School Principal Renu Singh confirmed the incident in an exclusive statement, saying that immediate action was taken as soon as the matter came to her attention. She assured that the child was found safe and returned to his parents. Nevertheless, the incident has sparked a major debate about the adequacy of school safety measures and transport monitoring systems in Noida.
