Recently, a user shared the details of how Aman Resorts came into existence by uploading an informative video on Instagram. The man behind this unique hospitality initiative is Adrian Zecha. It all started when Adrian, a successful publisher in Indonesia, was searching for a vacation home in Phuket. After two long years, he finally came across a secluded beach, surrounded by forests.
How Aman Resorts Came Into Existence
Instead of a traditional hotel or private villas, Adrian Zecha was struck by a wild idea — to build a hotel that felt nothing like one. That's how Aman Resorts came into existence, which initially became a holiday destination for Adrian's rich friends. Some of the salient features of Aman Resorts are that there are no corporate policies or front desks. Instead, vacationers are greeted with hidden pavilions.

The task of establishing Aman Resorts was, however, easier said than done. Banks refused to fund a 40-room resort when competitors had 400 rooms. But Adrian Zecha believed that true luxury wasn't about size, it was about making people feel completely at peace. At first, he built Amanpuri, which translates to “a place of peace" in Sanskrit. Steering clear of traditional marketing strategies, the expert hotelier began sending handwritten invitations to his friends, urging them to stay at the resort.

Word Of Mouth Boosted Aman Resort's Popularity
Soon, the word of mouth started spreading like magic. Affluent guests started arriving at the posh Aman properties. At present, Aman has as many as 35 resorts under its brand, with rooms starting from 1000 dollars and going up to 10,000 dollars per night. Room vacancies are still announced through elegant postcards sent to past guests.
