NC working committee passes resolution on restoration of special status and statehood of J&K
The National Conference working committee has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring Jammu and Kashmir's special status. The party also demanded the immediate restoration of statehood. Resolutions condemned the Red Fort attack and called for a high-level probe into the Nowgam blast. Concerns were raised over the harassment of J&K students and residents nationwide.
The working committee of the ruling National Conference unanimously passed the resolutions reaffirming the commitment to restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir and demanded immediate restoration of statehood.
The NC also passed a resolution condemning recent Red Fort attack and demanded investigation of accidental Nowgam blast at the highest level. They also expressed serious concern over the reports of harassment faced by students, traders, and residents of J&K in different parts of the country.
The NC's two-day working committee meeting concluded on Friday during which they passed seven resolutions.
"We unanimously reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the restoration of J&K's special status. This issue is central to the aspirations and dignity of the people and must be addressed without further delay. The party will continue its principled fight for its full restoration," read the resolution.
The NC urged the Government of India to immediately restore full statehood to J&K as promised on the floor of parliament, repeatedly affirmed in the public domain, and noted by the constitution bench of the Supreme Court.
The NC also passed a resolution condemning Delhi terror attack unequivocally and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. "In a civilised society, violence has no place, and such heinous acts must be dealt with firmly and decisively," NC resolved in the meeting.
The NC also expressed deep concern over the Nowgam blast and conveyed its condolences to the affected families. The incident must be investigated at the highest level and responsibility fixed for any deviation from standard operating procedure," read the resolution.
The NC's working committee also strongly condemned selective targeting of residents of J&K across the country in the aftermath of recent events.
"People of J&K cannot be stereotyped, and called upon all state governments to ensure the safety, dignity, and protection of the lives and property of Kashmiris and other residents of J&K living or working across India. Not every Kashmiri is a terrorist or a supporter of terror," read the resolution. The committee reiterated the party's unwavering commitment to fulfilling all promises made in its manifesto. The WC also unanimously reaffirmed its full support to the government led by Omar Abdullah and urged it to continue fulfilling the aspirations of the people and upholding their dignity.
