Medals Galore! Abhinav, Pranjali Add Stellar Gold Medal To India's Medal Tally At Tokyo Deaflympics

Indian shooters kept the medals rolling at the 25th Deaflympics, with Abhinav Deshwal and Pranjali Prashant Dhumal striking gold in the 10m Air Pistol mixed event on a stellar Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Kushagra Singh Rajawat also added a bronze in the 50m Rifle Prone.

Abhinav and Pranjali dismantled Chinese Taipei's Ya-Ju Kao and Ming-Jui Hsu 16-6, never letting their opponents sniff a comeback.

The Indian duo had already set the tone earlier in the day, equalling their own Deaf World and Olympic record in qualifying with a combined 569-20x — Abhinav shooting 287-12x and Pranjali 282-8x.

Both had also won individual silver medals on Monday, and the momentum clearly carried through.

In the rifle finals, Kushagra produced a composed performance to clinch bronze with a score of 224.3. The event saw Ukraine's Dmytro Petrenko shoot his way into the record books with a stunning 251.0, breaking both the Deaf World and Olympic marks, while Germany's Colin Mueller took silver with 245.4.

India's second pair — women's champion Anuya Prasad and Rudar Vinod Kumar — couldn't make the final cut, finishing seventh in qualification with 553-10x. Iran's Mahla Samiee and Bijan Ghaffari claimed bronze in the event.

With these results, India's medal tally in shooting has climbed to 11, and more could be on the way.

Mahit Sandhu and Natasha Joshi are set to compete in the women's 50m 3 Positions event on Thursday.

Sandhu already has a gold and silver from the 10m Air Rifle mixed team and individual events, and will be looking to add more to India's growing haul.
