A Golden Birthday At The Deaflympics! Anuya Prasad Gifts Herself Gold With WR-Breaking Performance
Young shooter Anuya Prasad couldn't have asked for a better birthday gift.
The teenager struck gold in the women's 10m air pistol at the Deaflympics in Tokyo on Monday, leading an all-Indian finish as Pranjali Prashant Dhumal clinched silver to wrap up a dominant 1-2.
Anuya didn't just win — she rewrote the record books, breaking the Deaf Final World Record (DFWR) in a confident, no-nerves performance.
Pranjali also made history earlier in the day, smashing the Qualification World Record (QWR) to top the preliminary round and book her spot in the final.
India's Medal Machine Rolls On
India's strong start in shooting continued as Abhinav Deshwal added a silver in the men's event, taking the country's shooting tally to seven medals in just two days. Deshwal, who had equalled the Qualification World Record earlier, finished behind Korea's Tae Young Kim in a tight contest.
This comes a day after 23-year-old Dhanush Srikanth, training under Olympian Gagan Narang in Hyderabad, clinched the men's 10m air rifle gold, setting the tone for a strong Indian campaign.
Anuya's Record Run
Anuya shot 564 in qualification, entering the final in third place. Pranjali, meanwhile, lit up the scoreboard with a stunning 572, breaking the QWR and topping the round.
Once in the final, the 19-year-old Anuya hit a different gear. She opened with a sharp 52.5 in the first series and never loosened her grip on the lead. She closed with 241.1, setting a new DFWR and earning her second major international gold, following her Deaf World Championships win in Hanover last year.
Pranjali finished with an impressive 236.8 for silver, while Iran's Mahla Samiee took bronze.
