Man, In Bengaluru, Shares How Helpline Number 112 Worked For Him Twice In 30 Days ‘Despite Not Knowing Kannada’
Not knowing a regional language in the South has often been a concern, with several language-related controversies making headlines over the years.
But this time, a Bengaluru resident has praised the city's 112 emergency helpline for its swift response, even though he did not know Kannada.
Taking to Reddit, the user said that, despite not having used emergency services in 27 years, he had to contact 112 twice within the last month.
“I was initially a bit hesitant to use the number due to my reading stories about them being unhelpful to non native speakers, but this was definitely not the case," they wrote.

First Incident: Road Accident in Indiranagar
The first incident occurred near Indiranagar, where they saw a man lying unconscious on the road after crashing his scooty into a car. While bystanders tried to help, moving him to the side, no one had called for an ambulance.
The Redditor said they immediately dialled 112 to report the incident. “The operator noted my concern and dispatched the police. I even received an SMS with a link to track the status of the action," they wrote.
“I got calls from the police and the ambulance person to ascertain my location. While the police said they will come to my location, the ambulance person asked me to take the injured person to the hospital directly to save time," the user added.
They further mentioned that by then the person had gained consciousness but he was drunk and denied requests to take him to the hospital in fear of getting charged with drunk driving. However, the police arrived, took video footage of the crashed scooty and assisted the injured person.
Second Incident: Late-Night Construction Noise
The Redditor then shared another incident that took place late at night when construction noise from a neighbouring business park made sleep impossible. “They were using some machine which made sharp shrieky noises at regular intervals, making it extremely difficult to sleep," they wrote.
After reporting it to 112, the matter was forwarded to the local police station. Officers arrived within 15 minutes, stopped the disruptive activity, and called back to confirm the situation was resolved. “Sleep might be gone but my appreciation for Bangalore police certainly is not," they concluded the post.

One of the users also shared a similar experience in the comment section. “I've had a few pleasant experiences, too. Some drunk hooligans were busy yelling in the street at around 3 AM. Thankfully, the cops turned up in around 15 minutes and cleared up the spot. I, too, hadn't expected them to respond," they wrote.
Another stated, “I have called them twice in Bangalore, related to noise complaint – one due to construction and the second time due to a loud badminton match past 12 AM. They were prompt; under 10 minutes in both cases."
