Just weeks before the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, popular folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur on Tuesday officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Patna. The induction took place in the presence of state BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal, marking her formal entry into active politics.
Her decision comes after weeks of speculation, as the singer had earlier hinted at her interest in contesting from her hometown Benipatti in Madhubani district.
A Hint of Politics Before the Big Step
On 7 October, Maithili Thakur had signalled her willingness to enter politics from her home turf in Benipatti. Her recent meetings with BJP national general secretary and Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union minister Nityanand Rai added weight to the buzz about her political debut.During her performance at the Narmada Mahotsav, Thakur shared her emotional connection to her roots, stating, “I have a special connection with my village. Starting from there will also give me a chance to learn and understand people better.”
