Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership in Kolkata. He emphasized the government's commitment to reducing red tape and boosting industrial growth. Birla noted India's rapid economic progress and expanding infrastructure. He highlighted people's participation as a strength of Indian democracy. The speaker also acknowledged Kolkata's historical significance and Bengal's rich contributions.

Highlighting the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday stressed on the Centre's commitment in ensuring ‘minimum government' role to reduce ‘red tapism' and enabling industrial growth in Kolkata

Birla said that democracy in India lies in its culture and people's participation in democracy is the country's strength.

Birla was addressing ‘India@100: An Age of A New Dawn' to mark the launch of the 125th anniversary celebrations of Bharat Chamber of Commerce, Birla emphasized the rapid economic growth of the country and availability of resources.

“In the journey of democracy, from the elections before 1952 to present day, people's participation in democracy was witnessed. There has been a change in power. But still the strength of democracy in India has increased,” Om Birla said.

The Speaker said, “The amount of resources available in India and the way infrastructure is expanding-road, railways and air-the economic progress of the country is fast developing.”

Emphasising that India's diversity is its greatest strength, Birla observed that the nation has emerged as a hub of global investors owing to its democratic practices and transparent governance.

“We have celebrated 75th anniversary of Azadi of the country which has diversity and the democracy will remain intact. There are rapid changes taking place in the country from an economic and social perspective and how changes will be taking place in future,” Birla said.

“Kolkata was the economical capital of the country during the British era,” the Lok Sabha Speaker said, while talking about the past glory of Bengal and Kolkata, spoke about Bengal's rich history, culture and literature and contribution in all spheres of lives. “The reformists and educationists who gave a message to the world about India's culture and history,” he said.

Bengal's contribution to the freedom movement of the country is well known, he said.

“How much is spoken and talked about Bengal is less,” Birla said, adding that Bharat Chamber of Congress has protected the interests of the country and preserved the main culture of the country.

Birla pointed out at the Chamber's journey during the pre-Independence era, particularly in the context of Kolkata's historic position as a leading industrial and cultural centre in pre-independent India.

Other speakers included Naresh Pachisia, President, Bharat Chamber of Commerce, H. M. Bangur, Chief Patron, Bharat Chamber of Commerce and N. G. Khaitan, Chairman, 125th Anniversary Celebrations Committee.
