Despite Norris extending his championship lead, Verstappen's win keeps his title defence alive heading into the final two rounds. George Russell claimed third place for Mercedes.
Max Verstappen kept his title defence hopes alive by winning the Las Vegas Grand Prix 2025 on Saturday, finishing ahead of pole-sitter and championship leader Lando Norris, who secured second place. Norris lost the lead during the first lap and was unable to regain position as Verstappen crossed the finish line for his sixth win of the season.
George Russell completed the race in third, marking another strong result for Mercedes. Oscar Piastri finished fourth, extending his run without a podium to six races.
Max Verstappen set up tight title fight in final rounds
The championship fight will now continue into the final two rounds, which include a sprint race in Qatar before the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The race once again delivered high-speed action as the cars reached speeds of over 215 miles per hour along the Las Vegas Strip under floodlights in the event's third edition.Despite finishing second, the result worked in Norris' favour in the championship battle as he increased his lead over Oscar Piastri, who also drives for McLaren. Norris now stands at 408 points, followed by Piastri at 378. Verstappen holds third place with 366 points.
Rains add to challenge
Qualifying on Friday was disrupted by rain, forcing drivers to contend with slippery track conditions on a circuit already known for low grip. The conditions tested car control and precision throughout the session as drivers worked to avoid barriers.2025 Drivers' standings
