‘Ketamine Queen’ Jasveen Sangha To Plead Guilty In Matthew Perry’s Death Case
In October 2023, Matthew Perry, best known for playing Chandler in the sitcom Friends, passed away at the age of 54. He was found dead in a jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles. Months after his tragic death, an autopsy revealed that he died from the “acute effects" of the powerful sedative ketamine that, combined with other factors, caused him to lose consciousness and drown in the hot tub. Following the report, five people, including two doctors, were charged in connection with his death.
Among them was a woman named Jasveen Sangha, a drug dealer who is also known as the “Ketamine Queen". She was accused of providing a lethal dose of the drug to Matthew Perry. On Monday, August 18, the US Department of Justice revealed that Jasveen has agreed to plead guilty to supplying drugs to the actor, which led to his death. The actor was prescribed ketamine as part of supervised therapy for depression. However, he became addicted to the drug before his death.
Jasveen Sangha To Enter Her Plea Soon
As reported by Agence France-Presse, the 42-year-old woman, who is a dual citizen of the United States and Britain, will admit to several charges, including the distribution of ketamine that resulted in death or serious bodily injury. Jasveen has been in federal custody since August 2024 and is expected to enter her plea in the coming weeks formally. With this, she will become the fifth person to admit playing a part in the death of the actor, who had publicly acknowledged decades of drug and alcohol abuse.
According to her plea agreement, Jasveen worked with a middleman named Erik Fleming. Together, they sold 51 vials of ketamine to the actor's live-in personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. The latter injected Matthew with the drug that Jasveen supplied, including on October 28, 2023, the day the actor passed away. When news of Matthew Perry's death broke, she tried to cover her tracks, asking the middleman Erik to “delete" all their messages.
However, upon searching her home, the investigators found methamphetamine, ketamine, ecstasy, cocaine, and counterfeit Xanax pills at her home. The Justice Department also mentioned that they found a money counting machine, a scale, and devices to detect wireless signals and hidden cameras at Jasveen's home.
Jasveen Sangha Could Face Decades In Prison
Her lawyer, Mark Geragos, told the above-mentioned agency, “She's taking responsibility for her actions." Jasveen is expected to plead guilty to one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, three counts of distribution of ketamine, and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury. When sentenced, she could face decades in prison.
The new development comes nearly a month after Matthew Perry's doctor, Salvador Plasencia, pleaded guilty to giving him ketamine before his tragic death. During a hearing in Los Angeles in July, the doctor admitted to supplying four counts of illegal distribution of the drug, which is used as a prescription anaesthetic. Another doctor involved in the case is Mark Chavez, who last year admitted to conspiring to distribute the drug to the actor.
