Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will meet AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge amid lobbying for a cabinet reshuffle and Dy CM D.K. Shivakumar's supporters pushing for his elevation. Siddaramaiah remains unperturbed, stating leadership decisions rest with the high command and he will complete his term.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he will meet AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in Bengaluru on Saturday amid hectic lobbying by a section of MLAs to become ministers in the event of a Cabinet reshuffle, and parallel efforts by Dy CM DK Shivakumar's followers to push his case for the CM's post.
In a chat with the media in Mysuru, the CM sounded unperturbed about the presence of some MLAs in Delhi to lobby for Shivakumar, saying the subjects like leadership change or cabinet reshuffle are decided by the high command. “Finally, it is the high command that decides. When they decide, DK Shivakumar, I and everyone else will have to listen.”
When asked about the trip by a section of MLAs to Delhi after he made a statement that he would remain CM for five years, Siddaramaiah repeated that he would complete his term as CM and present future budgets too.
Sections of MLAs have become active on the back of reports that the CM may go for a full-fledged reshuffle as the Congress regime has completed half its term. Shivakumar has also been under pressure from a section of loyal MLAs to do his bit of lobbying to replace Siddaramaiah.
`I Wish Him The Best'
The Dy CM said, “I wish him all the best,” responding to a media query about Siddaramaiah's assertion that he would remain the CM for the remainder of the government's five-year term.
Shivakumar said he was not leading any faction in the Congress as such politics was not in his blood, and all the Congress MLAs were important for him.
"I am not interested in taking any group to Delhi. I don't believe in factionalism. The CM has said that he will carry out a Cabinet reshuffle and hence some MLAs are travelling to Delhi to meet the High Command. I have not taken any MLA to Delhi. They are going to Delhi on their own,” he said.
Asked if keeping promises was not important, the Dy CM added, "The CM has expressed his thoughts. I will not talk about it. I am there and the High Command is there. The CM has also said that he would go by the High Command's words."
Asked about dinner meetings organised by Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, he said, "I don't know about dinner meetings. They have been organising dinner meetings for the last two and a half years demanding 4-5 DCMs and change of KPCC President. Let them organise more dinner meets."
Since Siddaramaiah took over the state's reins for a second time in May 2023, there have been unconfirmed reports that Shivakumar relented and agreed to be the Dy CM only after he extracted a promise from the party leadership.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
