Tamil Nadu Congress leaders to meet AICC brass amid DMK hard line

Congress leaders will meet with Tamil Nadu party functionaries in Delhi to discuss the upcoming state assembly elections. This follows the Congress's request to coalition leader DMK for more seats and a pre-poll power-sharing agreement, which the DMK has reportedly ruled out. A section of Tamil Nadu Congress leaders may seek ministerial berths if the alliance wins.

The meeting is taking place days after the Congress conveyed to coalition leader DMK its wish for an increased share of seats and a pre-poll commitment on power-sharing, even as DMK leaders responded by ruling out any power-sharing in the state.

ET had reported on December 23 that the All India Congress Committee in-charge Girish Chodankar had conveyed to DMK chief MK Stalin the Congress wish list. During Saturday's meet, expected to be attended by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, a section of Tamil Nadu Congress leaders could broach the power-sharing issue and express a wish for at least six ministerial berths for the party if the DMK-led alliance retains power.
