'It's All False': DK Shivakumar Rejects Claims Of College Student's Death Due To Pothole
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday rejected BJP's claim stating that a college student died due to potholes in Bengaluru. On Monday, a 22-year-old college student lost her life in eastern Bengaluru after a tipper lorry ran over her while she was reportedly trying to avoid a pothole.
A day after the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that 60 per cent of Bengaluru roads have become “death pits." Speaking to reporters, DK Shivakumar refuted BJP's claims and said “It is all false. They are only spreading a hoax. Because of them (BJP), all this has been created."
The deceased girl, identified as Dhanashree, a second-year B.Com student, was commuting to her college on her two-wheeler when she lost balance trying to swerve around a pothole. As per the police reports, she fell to the ground, and the tipper lorry traveling immediately behind ran over her head, resulting in her immediate death.
BJP Slammed Karnataka Government
BJP took to X and posted, “Due to the mismanagement of the government, the roads of the state including Bangalore have become death pits. It is unfortunate that a student has died in a road pothole in Silicon City. The fact that the roads of Bengaluru, which were supposed to facilitate smooth traffic, are endangering the lives of commuters every day highlights the poor performance of D K Shivakumar."
The saffron party further questioned, “DK Shivakumar, where did the deadline you gave to the officials come from? The Rs 750 crore released to close the pothole. Whose pocket did it go to? How many more innocent people do you want to lose to your government?"

Clarifying over the pothole issue, DK Shivakumar said on Tuesday said that 13,000 potholes in the city have been filled so far. He also inspected pothole repair and road works underway in various parts of the city.
Shivakumar, who is also the Minister in-charge of Bengaluru development also instructed officials to chalk out a Rs 1,100 crore action plan to develop 550 km arterial roads in the city.
