Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Dies In Plane Crash In Baramati
Ajit Pawar is reported to have died after a Learjet aircraft he was travelling in crashed while landing in Maharashtra's Baramati.
Ajit Pawar, senior NCP leader, is reported to have died after a small aircraft he was travelling in crashed-landed in Baramati on Wednesday.
It is being claimed that Pawar's body has been taken to Baramati Medical College, where his mortal remains are being kept, and that all six people on board the aircraft have died in the crash.
Earlier, preliminary inputs had suggested that the aircraft suffered an accident during landing, with reports saying some passengers were injured and that official confirmation about Pawar's condition was awaited.
However, it was later confirmed that the situation was far more grave, with six fatalities being reported.
According to details shared so far, the aircraft was a Learjet, described as a six-to-eight seater, bearing the flight model or registration VT-SSK.
The plane had taken off from Mumbai at around 8.10 am.
Air Traffic Control was reportedly informed about the crash at 9.12 am.
Sources said that Ajit Pawar was in Baramati as part of his schedule related to district council elections, and several rallies had been lined up for the day.
The aircraft was said to have been carrying Pawar, two pilots, two personal assistants, and one NCP worker.
Rescue operations are currently underway at the crash site, with local administration and security agencies rushing to the area to assess the situation and manage emergency response.
Family members are also reported to be on their way to Baramati.
Political activity across the state has been impacted by the developing situation.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is said to have cancelled his Konkan rally after news of the crash emerged.
Authorities are expected to issue a formal briefing once rescue efforts conclude and identities and casualties are verified.
