Iran Closes Skies: This Delhi Flight Was Final 'Non-Iran-Registered' Aircraft To Exit
Iran closed its airspace to commercial flights early Thursday morning amid threats of an imminent attack from the United States. An Indian passenger aircraft was the last non-Iran-registered airline to exit the country's airspace, according to a post by Flight Rada24 early Thursday morning.
Indigo Flight 6E1808, which departed Tbilisi in Georgia, passed over Iran at about 2.35 am on Thursday, according to flight tracking data. It cleared the Iranian skies minutes before the closure.
The airspace closure came after repeated threats from US President Donald Trump, who said America would attack Tehran if it targeted the ongoing anti-government protesters on the streets of multiple cities in the country.

The shutdown, which lasted for more than four hours, affected the east-west aviation corridor. Pilot guidance issued by Iran indicated that the closure caused significant disruption to international flight operations, forcing several carriers to divert north or south of Iranian airspace. After one extension, the closure appeared to expire, with several domestic flights taking off shortly after 7 am on January 15, reported NDTV.
Indian Airlines Reroute And Cancel Flights
Indian carriers were among those hit by the sudden development. Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet informed passengers on their respective social media handles about the rerouting or cancellation of some of their international services following the airspace shutdown.

According to NDTV, Air India cancelled many early morning flights on January 15, including Delhi-New York JFK (AI 101), Delhi-Newark (AI 105) and Mumbai-New York JFK (AI 119), along with their return services. IndiGo's Baku-Delhi flight, scheduled for early morning departure, was forced to return to the Azerbaijan capital within an hour, as its planned route required overflying Iran after crossing the Caspian Sea.

SafeAirspace, which provides information on conflict areas and air travel, said, “Several airlines have already reduced or suspended services, and most carriers are avoiding Iranian airspace. The situation may signal further security or military activity, including the risk of missile launches or heightened air defence, increasing the risk of misidentification of civil traffic."
