iPhone 18 Pro Could Get Apple’s Biggest Camera Upgrade Next Year: What We Know
Apple brought the iPhone 17 Pro this year with a design change and some new camera sensors to have people excited. But the big launch seems to have been reserved for 2026 when the new iPhone 18 series is announced along with the 18 Pro models.
We have been talking about Apple's lack of innovation with cameras (not selfies), and how Chinese brands like Vivo and Oppo among others have taken over the mantle. Apple could be back in that conversation with some of the biggest camera upgrades once again tipped to arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max (or 18 Ultra?) models.
Big Changes Coming
We have previously heard rumours about Apple adopting a variable aperture camera system with the iPhone 18 Pro series next year and once again it has been mentioned in a new report. The details via ETNews in South Korea suggest Apple's new premium models will get upgraded cameras, not just in the megapixels but also the way they work. Having variable aperture will allow the iPhone 18 Pro cameras to operate in versatile lighting, conditions and range.
This feature has been adopted by Xiaomi and even Vivo with its recent flagship devices and Apple could finally enter this arena which will surely make a big difference to the quality of the images. This will be Apple's first iPhone model to get the variable aperture system, and for that, the report claims it will rely on suppliers like LG Innotech and Foxconn to make the cameras with this capability.
Having this camera feature means the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max prices next year will shoot up further. But the company also plans to announce its first foldable iPhone along with the iPhone Air 2 version in 2026, so the rumour mills are only going to get busier in the next few months.
Apple was one of the last to offer high-refresh rate displays on the iPhones, but people still value its addition. Bringing variable aperture to the cameras will make the competition get serious and have more brands adopt the feature for their products.
