Infosys to hire 20,000 graduates in FY27 as AI demand surges: Report
Information technology giant Infosys will hire 20,000 college graduates in FY27 as part of a major push into artificial intelligence services, a welcome development at a time when the global tech industry has been facing layoffs. The hiring plan was confirmed by CEO Salil Parekh at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, reported moneycontrol.com.
The report noted that Infosys has already hired 18,000 graduates in the first three quarters of FY26. The company's net headcount increased by more than 5,000 employees in the December quarter, and it expects FY26 hiring to touch 20,000 freshers.
According to Parekh, the demand landscape is changing as clients shift budgets toward AI and automation. “We see some places where there is compression and some places where there is growth. And we see the growth a little bit more than what we see on the compression,” he said.
Infosys is seeing new work emerge in areas such as software development, customer service and the modernisation of legacy applications as businesses adopt AI agents and multiple foundation models.
“If you take an example of software development, where there is a lot of agents being developed on different foundation models. There is work going on in customer service. There is work on modernising old applications using agents,” Parekh said, describing how AI is reshaping demand across verticals even as traditional work faces pressure.
Parekh said client interest in AI is no longer limited to pilot projects. Adoption is accelerating in sectors such as financial services.
“In financial services, (out of) 25 of our largest clients, (in) 15 we are the AI partner of choice So these are real projects. This is not proof of concept. These are projects in banks, which are being used at scale today,” he told the publication.
On pricing models for AI-led delivery, Parekh said the industry is still in the early stages of figuring out how to price work that blends human teams with AI agents. “It is still an early time period. We are already doing some pricing based on agents and some based on joint teams, which is agent plus human, but it is a very small number of that work,” he said.
Standard pricing models are expected to evolve over the coming quarters.
Parekh noted that clients appear cautiously optimistic about tech spending for 2026, driven by stronger economic signals from the United States. “What appears to be is that many of the large companies are seeing the growth of the US GDP. This is more for the US side first than for Europe,” he said.
Infosys' FY27 hiring plan signals that the company expects AI-led demand to accelerate, even as traditional IT services go through compression in some pockets.
The expansion also positions the company to compete more aggressively for next-generation digital and AI transformation deals.
