Influencer Steps In To Help Rapido Passenger Navigate Waterlogged Road In Bengaluru: ‘It’s Like A Submarine’
Bengaluru is known as India's tech capital that attracts thousands for job opportunities. It is equally notorious for its roads that often test commuters' patience. A recent video highlighted just how tough it can get on some stretches, so waterlogged and damaged that they barely resemble a road.
The clip, shared by content creator Lakshman Goswami, captures a real-life struggle on one of Bengaluru's busiest roads. It shows him helping a woman after her Rapido driver's scooter broke down in the middle of a heavily waterlogged section, reportedly on Marathahalli–Kadubeesanahalli Road.
‘It's Like A Submarine'
As Goswami rides through the city, he comes across a stretch of road completely flooded with several vehicles stuck in muddy water. A Rapido driver and his female passenger are among those stranded.
Goswami tries to start the scooter but can't get it going. Seeing this, the woman tells the driver to cancel the trip and offers to pay for the distance already travelled.
Seeing her dilemma, Goswami steps in and asks, “How will you go from here?" She answers, “I have to." He offers to help her at least cross the flooded road. The woman agrees and she gets on the bike, Goswami jokingly says, “OTP please," making her laugh.
The duo then carefully navigated the waterlogged road. “It's like a submarine," says Goswami as they move through the deep water. Once she reaches the other side safely, Goswami humourously says, “Give me five-star ratings, ma'am."
Highlighting Bengaluru's Road Woes
The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter) to underline the condition of Bengaluru's roads which make commuting extremely difficult.
One X account wrote, “Thanks to Leki Goswami for highlighting what can only be described as a “submarine road" in Bengaluru a stretch so waterlogged, muddy and cratered that it looks more like a swimming pool than a city road. The craters here are literally bigger than those on the moon, and yet thousands of commuters, mostly tech professionals, are forced to wade through it every single day just to reach their offices."
The post further criticised the lack of accountability despite years of tax collection and called the situation a “collapse of civic duty."
Frustration Pours In Online
The video gained significant attention online and sparked a wave of reactions online where many highlighting the city's persistent infrastructure challenges.
One user commented, “India's tech capital with roads that double as swimming pools. Crores collected in taxes, potholes bigger than the moon, and commuters playing real-life Frogger every day. Excuses won't patch this, only action will."
Another said, “We are fined for various offences… but it's okay to swim through these unsafe roads of Bangalore, who is getting fined for bad roads? No one?"
“I don't understand how did we get so much patient and used to getting robbed! We pay tax in form of TDS and yet decided to stay quiet without asking for basic necessities!!" someone remarked.
“Pretty much the same story on multiple stretches. If it isn't raining, there will be overflowing drainages…Pathetic!!" read another comment.
Another Incident Highlights Road Hazards
A few days ago, a school bus was plying on the slush-filled, crater-ridden Panathur-Balagere Road when the surface collapsed. This causing it to tilt dangerously to one side. The incident highlighted the risks posed by poorly maintained stretches of the city's roads.
