Indian Railways has announced a significant expansion of passenger services with the introduction of 20 new trains from February 1, 2026, aiming to ease congestion, meet rising travel demand, and offer passengers a better chance of securing confirmed seats during the busy festive season and beyond.
A Boost for Festive and Long-Distance Travel The latest rollout includes a mix of Amrit Bharat Express, Vande Bharat Express, and special passenger trains, designed to improve speed, comfort, and affordability. According to railway officials, these services will run on key routes across the country, strengthening connectivity between major cities and regional hubs in north, south, east, and west India.
Passengers planning travel in February can already book tickets, as reservations are open on the IRCTC website and mobile app. Early bookings are expected to help travellers avoid last-minute rush and waitlisted tickets.
Designed to Reduce Crowding and Save Time The new train schedules and routes have been carefully planned to reduce pressure on heavily crowded corridors. By adding capacity and improving frequency, Indian Railways aims to shorten travel times, improve punctuality, and make long-distance journeys more comfortable especially on routes that see heavy seasonal demand.
These services have been approved under Trains at a Glance 2026, with a strong focus on affordable and efficient travel. The Amrit Bharat Mission, in particular, targets middle-class and general passengers by offering modern coaches at reasonable fares.
Some of the important trains announced or updated under the new plan include:
Delhi – Shamli MEMU (Train No. 64033):This service will be a major relief for daily commuters travelling between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh, offering more reliable and frequent local connectivity.
Pilibhit – Shahjahanpur Passenger:Introduced to strengthen local travel, this daily passenger train will make short-distance journeys simpler and more accessible.
Rajendra Nagar – New Delhi Amrit Bharat:A key addition for passengers travelling between Bihar and Delhi, offering an affordable and comfortable long-distance option.
Sabarmati – Jodhpur Vande Bharat:From February 1, the revised schedule is expected to provide more convenient travel timings, enhancing fast and comfortable journeys between Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Kamakhya – Rohtak Amrit Bharat (Weekly):This train will play an important role in improving direct rail connectivity between the Northeast and Haryana, especially for long-distance and budget-conscious travellers.
Sambalpur – Erode Special:Extended to support passengers travelling from Odisha to Tamil Nadu, this service makes southbound long-distance travel more direct and less time-consuming.
Puri – Rourkela Vande Bharat:A new semi-high-speed service connecting key cities within Odisha, offering faster, smoother, and more comfortable intrastate travel.
Dhule – Varanasi/Ayodhya (Proposed):New services are being planned from Maharashtra to major religious destinations, providing pilgrims with direct and convenient rail access.
What This Means for PassengersWith the launch of these 20 new trains, Indian Railways is taking another step toward modernising the country's rail network. The added services are expected to ease overcrowding, improve connectivity, and make rail travel more reliable during peak seasons.
