In Awe Of Rotating Seat, German Man Compares India’s ‘Most Luxurious Speed Rail’ To Japan's Bullet Train – Guess The Name

A German traveller has captured attention online after sharing his experience on an Indian train. Alexander Welder took a ride on the Vande Bharat in executive class, calling it “India's most modern train." He said he was immediately impressed upon stepping inside, noting that the neat seating layout resembled the high-speed trains he had seen in Japan and China. He also pointed out the surprisingly spacious overhead racks, which can easily accommodate large luggage without any hassle.

One feature that excited him most was the rotating seats, which allowed him to turn toward the window and enjoy the passing views. He and his friend were seen happily testing the seats during the journey. Alex also showcased both types of toilets on the train and offered a glimpse of the meal served to him. His food tray included dal, sabzi, curry, chapati, rice, ice cream, and snacks, all covered in his Rs 2,100 executive-class ticket for the five-and-a-half-hour ride.

German Traveller Is All Praise For Vande Bharat Experience

In an Instagram video, Alexander Welder says, “Today we are taking a journey on what is considered India's most modern train, the Vande Bharat, in executive class. Check out the setup here. It looks a bit like I'm in a Japanese or Chinese high speed train. Also, look how spacious the overhead compartment is. My luggage is insanely big, but it still comfortably fits in the overhead compartment. One thing that is very cool about this train check this one out you can actually turn around your chairs so you can face the window. How cool is that? I'm not sure how we're actually locking in the chair. We are playing around here with them."

“Let's get our soup served here, and the next meal just arrived. This is actually our pre-ordered meal that we ordered in advance online. We have chapati here, two different curries, rice and vegetables, and we have ice cream. We even got some ice cream as a dessert. And we just got snacks also included in the ticket. How crazy is that?"

Another shared, “That's a really good price compared to Europe. Sometimes u don't even get to sit in Germany without seat reservations if trains are very full."

“Finally saw a rich foreigner, who can afford Vande Bharat," a comment read.

An individual stated, “For tourists, this is not the most luxurious. You should try Maharajas' Express, Palace on Wheels, Golden Chariot and Deccan Odyssey."

Another mentioned, “Ultimately, old trains will be phased out and these trains will run for the general public and bullet trains will run for the more economically viable population. We have come a long way to be honest, especially in the railways, we have more electrification percentage in our railways than the US or China, and the largest electrified railway network in the world."

One more added, “Japanese, Korean trains can be high speed. But Indian trains are spacious. Legroom and enough headspace."

What Seating Options Does Vande Bharat Offer?

Vande Bharat trains offer two seating choices. The Chair Car (CC) is slightly compact and comes at a lower price. It is suitable for short to medium journeys where comfort is needed but luxury is not a priority. The Executive Chair Car (EC), on the other hand, provides wider seats, extra legroom and a better recline. It offers a premium travel experience suitable for longer trips.

Price Difference & Added Amenities

While CC is budget-friendly, EC is priced higher due to the enhanced comfort and additional services it provides. Both classes come with air conditioning, charging points and clean, modern interiors. However, EC stands out with rotating seats, upgraded meal options, quieter cabins and, in some cases, lounge access at select stations.
