New Delhi: Massive traffic congestion hit several parts of the national capital as global leaders arrived for the high level AI summit.
New Delhi: Heavy traffic congestion was reported across several key routes in the national capital as global leaders arrived to attend the high-profile AI summit. Security arrangements and movement restrictions led to diversions and longer travel times, leaving commuters stranded in slow-moving traffic. Authorities have issued advisories, urging residents to plan journeys in advance and use alternate routes.
As global leaders, ministers, and technology experts gather in the national capital for the AI Impact Summit 2026, Delhi has been placed under heightened security and traffic regulation. The five-day summit, being held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan from February 16 to 20, has drawn Heads of State, senior government officials, industry leaders and international delegates, prompting extensive movement control across key parts of the city.

In view of VIP movement on Day 3 of the summit (February 18), the Delhi Traffic Police has enforced special arrangements across central and New Delhi areas:
Restricted & Controlled Areas
Bhairon Marg (excluding Ring Road–Mathura Road stretch) and surrounding roads near Pragati Maidan remain under strict regulation.
Only authorised vehicles are permitted in designated restricted zones.
Commuters are advised to avoid Mathura Road, Subramania Bharti Marg, Tilak Marg, Sher Shah Road, Purana Quila Road and adjoining stretches during peak movement hours.
Metro Services
Metro services will continue to operate normally across all lines.
However, parking at metro stations near the venue may be regulated depending on security requirements.
Passengers are advised to use metro services to avoid road congestion.
Bus Services
Several bus routes are being diverted during VIP movement windows.
Temporary stoppage or route changes may be implemented on affected corridors near Pragati Maidan and central Delhi.
TSRs and Taxis
Auto-rickshaws and taxis may face movement restrictions in high-security zones.
Pick-up and drop-off points near Bharat Mandapam have been regulated.
Advisory for Schools & Students
Schools located near Pragati Maidan and adjoining routes have been advised to follow suggested diversion routes.
Special traffic arrangements are in place to facilitate the movement of school buses.
Parents and students have been urged to plan travel in advance.
General Public Advisory
Heavy vehicles and buses are not permitted on certain central Delhi corridors during summit hours.
Commuters are advised to use public transport, avoid non-essential travel in central Delhi, and allow extra travel time.
Emergency vehicles will be given priority passage at all times.
Authorities have appealed to residents to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow official updates as the city hosts one of the most significant AI-focused global gatherings of the year.
