Heated Exchange At Bengaluru Airport After Passenger Misses Flight Due To Heavy Congestion
Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport saw a tense incident on Tuesday when a passenger, claiming to have arrived nearly two-and-a-half hours before departure, missed his scheduled flight.
The situation escalated into a heated exchange between the passenger and airport staff at the check-in counter, with a viral video of the confrontation sparking widespread discussion on social media.
According to the passenger, procedural delays and unexpected congestion at the terminal were responsible for him missing the flight.
“He will not let us go even if we are ready to pay 4 kg allowance. Please take urgent action against this guy and he needs to be behind bars," the passenger can be heard saying in the video, referring to a staff member who allegedly refused to allow him to board despite offering to pay for extra baggage.
The staff member, in turn, appeared aggressive during the exchange, prompting other airport staff to intervene. The person recording the incident also said the staff member asked them to lower the camera while the argument was ongoing.
The video, shared by the X account Karnataka Portfolio, has been widely circulating on the platform.
Frequent flyers have echoed these concerns on X, noting that congestion during peak hours has become a recurring problem at Bengaluru airport. Some users commented that they too had faced similar issues, with one saying, “I have missed the flight too on monday morning and I was told by security staff to reach 4 hours before the boarding time .Wow Now I have to reach airport for like 2hrs and then 4hrs before all this for my 2.5hr flight journey. Realised blr has traffic untill you reach your seat."
Others pointed out that delays were exacerbated by full overhead compartments, security checks taking time, and chaotic traffic outside the airport.
However, social media reactions have been divided. While some criticised the staff's behaviour towards the passenger, questioning airline training, others suggested the passenger may have been partly responsible, calling the incident “a fight over excess baggage" or “an absent-minded passenger who was late despite reaching early."
Airport authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
