‘He Kept Touching Me, Pulled Cheeks’: Delhi Woman Shares ‘Uncomfortable Nervous’ On Metro, Redditors Say ‘CISF Ko...’

A routine Delhi Metro ride turned into a frightening experience for a young woman when a middle-aged man behaved inappropriately with her.

In a post titled, “Will never use metro again, with time men are getting more scary," the woman shared how the incident left her feeling “nervous."

The teenager, travelling from Shalimar Bagh to Rithala, said the man first made light contact while trying to take his phone out, which she thought was accidental.

Soon, his actions became more deliberate. He leaned towards her, kept his elbow on her shoulder and later touched her cheek as well. When she asked about his behaviour, he apologised, but still touched her before he left for Pitampura station.

Routine Metro Ride Turns Frightening for Young Woman

On Reddit, the woman explained, “At Netaji Subhash place, one uncle (like 40-45) came and sat next to me on a corner ladies-only seat, I didn't mind at all. Then he was trying to take his phone out from his left pocket and had a little contact with me. I didn't mind because he was a little fat, so I thought it was not intentional. I was wearing a sleeve shirt, so was he, like after 10 seconds his arm touched mine, like for 1-2 sec, and then within 5 sec his arm touched, but this time it was like he was a little bit leaning towards me and was a continuous contact like for 10 sec until I bent a little towards the front."

“Then it was so unexpected he put his elbow at back of my shoulder, I didn't know anyone will go this far here in metro. I got little bit uncomfortable nervous and after around 10 sec I said ‘Uncle, hath kyu rakh rahe ho mera upar' why are putting arms on me. He looked towards me and patted my shoulder twice and said ‘sorry sorry.' Just after couple of minute, he put his hands on my lap like wide fingers and said ‘Sorry beta, thora thaka hua tha, bura mat manna' before I say anything he touched my cheek (like for: 0.5 sec.) with his other hand and putted a pressure on my my lap with his other hand and left at Pitampura stop," the woman added.

The young woman said she felt very “confused and nervous" during the incident and didn't know how to react. She was not prepared to see someone behave that way in a public place and has not told anyone about what happened. Even at home later, she kept thinking about the man's actions, which made her feel upset and shaken. She admitted that the whole situation was much harder to handle than she expected and asked for advice on how to cope with the emotional impact.

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “You didn't do anything wrong, he did. Speak up or report it if it happens again."

Another shared, “It was actually scary, especially when this happens, the mind just freezes and we don't know how to act properly. Always have pepper spray, and next time stop their behaviour at the start of when you feel uncomfortable. You should've told him to behave or if you don't want to create a scene, then just stand up and change seats. And just to be on safe side, ride in the women's coach (the first coach of metro) so that you can feel safe."

“Self defence classes from a young age is also a solution. Better late than never. Start now. Segregation only makes it worse," a comment read.

Many women commented with advice on how to handle such situations, a man also shared his thoughts, saying he always makes sure to accompany his mother and cousins to protect them from similar incidents. According to him, people who behave this way should not be considered part of the community of decent men.
